Essential oils distilled from Berries
Sort by:
The concentrated power of berries
Essential oils distilled from berries encapsulate the concentrated power that plants hold within their fruits. Juniper, Litsea, Palo Santo berries: these essential oils have an intense, tonic character, capable of bringing energy and vitality. Berries are small treasure chests of active ingredients, and their essential oils tell the full story of their richness.
Olfattiva essential oils are pure, whole, and 100% natural. They come from a careful and rigorous selection process, refined over twenty years of experience, and they reflect the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest.
How they are made: steam distillation
Essential oils from berries are obtained through steam distillation, the most traditional extraction technique. The plant to be distilled is placed inside an alembic, where steam is introduced; as it passes through the plant, it extracts the essential oil molecules. The steam then passes through a refrigerated coil, where it returns to a liquid state.
The resulting liquid flows into a Florentine vase, where the essential oil separates from the aromatic water: the essential oil, being lighter than water, floats to the surface. This technique is suitable for most aromatic plants, including berries, which release their most precious molecules to the steam.
Essential oil is the soul of the plant
Essential oil is a complex mixture of aromatic molecules that the plant produces to defend itself, heal, reproduce, or strengthen. From a subtle perspective, it is the soul of the plant: sun, water, air, earth, and subtle energies become the plant and, through the essential oil, interact with humans.
For some species, this soul concentrates in the fruits, where the plant holds its vital energy. This is why essential oils distilled from berries often have an intense and tonic character. These are raw materials that cannot be synthetically recreated: an artificial reproduction would never have the properties or the energetic information of the plant.
How we select them
The selection of Olfattiva essential oils is a meticulous, rigorous, and never automatic process. For each essential oil, we verify the full botanical name, chemotype, part of the plant used, extraction method, origin, and distillation quality, always alongside an olfactory evaluation.
The chemotype, in particular, is invaluable: the type of sun exposure, soil quality, altitude, and atmospheric agents cause biochemical variations in essential oils distilled from plants of the same variety, leading them to develop different percentages of active ingredients and distinct olfactory notes. Knowing the chemotype allows us to precisely define the character of the essential oil.
Only when all these elements are consistent does the essential oil enter the Olfattiva catalog: a carefully selected, traceable, and recognizable raw material.
Properties of berry essential oils
Essential oils distilled from berries are traditionally associated with energy and tonicity. Juniper is known for its purifying properties and its tonic and draining action; it is often chosen to accompany moments when clarity and lightness are sought. Litsea, fresher and brighter, opens with a citrusy and sparkling note: it brings good humor, lightness, and a feeling of renewed vitality.
These essential oils have a decisive character, ideal for those seeking vitality. When diffused, they create energizing and dynamic atmospheres; in synergies, they add a vibrant and invigorating note. Juniper is often also a protagonist in compositions dedicated to body wellness, thanks to its functional properties.
How to use them
Berry essential oils are suitable for diffusion in the environment: use up to 10-15 drops in water-based diffusers like Levante and Maestrale, and 5-7 drops in cold diffusers like Alarino. They create tonic and enveloping atmospheres, ideal for moments when energy is sought.
In general, we discourage applying pure essential oils directly to the skin: for topical use, they should be diluted in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba, or in a neutral cream, to make them gentler and suitable for massage. Juniper, in particular, is often used diluted for massages with a toning and draining action.
They can also be combined with other essential oils to create personal synergies: berries blend well with citrus fruits for fresh and tonic compositions, and with woods for deep and grounding scents.
How to store them
To best preserve the quality of berry essential oils, we recommend storing them away from direct light, heat, and temperature fluctuations. They are living and precious raw materials: proper storage helps maintain their aromatic profile and properties intact over time.
Unlike citrus fruits, essential oils distilled by steam are generally more stable and less prone to oxidation, but careful storage always remains the best choice to enjoy their full quality for a long time.
Natural, vegan, and cruelty-free
All Olfattiva essential oils are 100% natural, pure, and whole. They are vegan and cruelty-free, formulated with only plant-based raw materials, without animal derivatives. Olfattiva is AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi and Vegan OK certified.
We believe in the law of resonance: what goes into a formula carries information with it. This is why our berry essential oils carry only the living and tonic message of the plant, with full respect for Nature and every living being.
What 100% natural means
In the world of essential oils, some words can be ambiguous. They are often used to indicate fragrances that have little or nothing natural about them: synthetic mixtures, recreated in the lab, sometimes presented as close to the plant world. Olfattiva chose a different path back in 2006, because our work arises from a faithful listening to the plant.
Our essential oils are pure and complete: they are not reconstituted, not diluted with synthetic substances, and contain no chemical fixatives. Each oil retains the plant's original complexity, its aromatic part, but also its more subtle strength, that living quality that acts on personal well-being and the atmosphere of spaces. For berries, this means preserving the concentrated power that the plant holds within its fruits, without altering it.
Olfattiva was born from a need for purity and a gamble: a truly natural fragrance is possible. We have been saying this since 2006 and continue to believe it, choosing every day to fully preserve the properties of plants.
The Opificio: where matter takes shape
The Olfattiva Opificio is located in Massa Lombarda, in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Romagna. It is here that every essential oil is welcomed, evaluated, and stored, and it is here that raw materials become perfumes, synergies, and aromatherapy products, through careful and conscious gestures.
The packaging is entirely done by hand: a choice that concerns not only the doing, but also the way the product is accompanied to its final form. While we work, we try to maintain beautiful, clean, and bright thoughts, because we believe that every gesture leaves a trace and every intention accompanies the matter. For berries, attention to distillation quality and processing steps preserves the tonic and intense character of the raw material.
It is this combination of rigor, expertise, and artisanal care that makes every Olfattiva essential oil an authentic and recognizable raw material, the result of over twenty years of experience at the service of Nature. When you use an essential oil obtained from berries, you benefit from much more than just a scent: you are experiencing the living identity of a plant.
Juniper and body wellness
Among berry essential oils, Juniper is one of the most beloved for body wellness. Its tonic and draining properties make it a valuable ally in massages dedicated to leg lightness and drainage, for which it is expertly diluted in vegetable oils along with other functional essential oils.
It is a raw material that combines the aromatic dimension with the functional one: when diffused, it purifies and tones the environment, while diluted it accompanies body care rituals. Its fresh and resinous character also makes it a beautiful element in more grounding synergies.
Litsea, perhaps the most well-known berry, has pronounced anti-inflammatory properties that make it ideal for muscle-relaxing massages. Its lively scent brings back the joy of living and confidence in one's path.
Combinations and synergies with berries
Berries lend themselves beautifully to the creation of personal synergies. Juniper pairs well with citrus fruits for fresh and tonic compositions, and with woods and resins for deep and grounding scents. Litsea, thanks to its citrus notes, also harmonizes perfectly with all medicinal herbs.
For those who love to experiment, we suggest starting with a few drops in the diffuser, dosing carefully because berries have an intense character. It is also possible to combine them with a carrier oil to create a personalized, tonic and energizing massage oil, to be experienced as a small ritual of vitality.
Safe use and practical advice
Essential oils are extremely concentrated raw materials: a few drops contain a large amount of plant material. For this reason, they should be used with respect and caution. The most important rule is never to apply them pure directly to the skin: for cutaneous use, they must always be diluted in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba, or in a neutral cream, to make them gentler and safer. Although obtained from a berry, Litsea contains a lot of citral: this is why its application before sun exposure is not recommended.
When an essential oil is added to a cream or vegetable oil, a true aromatherapeutic product is obtained: during massage, the active ingredients work locally, while the odorous molecules reach the limbic system through the sense of smell, promoting balance and emotional well-being. This is what we call transdermal aromatherapy.
In the presence of animals, essential oils can be diffused with caution and common sense: our pets have a much more developed sense of smell than ours. It is best to choose delicate notes, use them sparingly, allow the animal the option to move away, and ventilate the rooms well. If in doubt, it is always advisable to consult a veterinarian.
Essential oil, an ancient and precious ally
Essential oils have accompanied humans for millennia. Steam distillation, which is used to obtain essential oils from berries, was introduced to Europe in the 12th century through the translation of ancient Arab chemical treatises, and since then it has remained the most traditional technique for extracting the aromatic soul of plants.
Berries, such as Juniper, have a long history of use in herbal and aromatherapy traditions, linked to their tonic, purifying, and draining properties. Today, Olfattiva preserves their quality by selecting traceable and recognizable raw materials with an intense and authentic character.
Using a berry essential oil means having an ally of energy and vitality: a companion for diffusion, for body wellness, and for the most toning synergies, to be experienced as a gesture of grounding.
Why choose Olfattiva essential oils
Choosing an Olfattiva berry essential oil means choosing a living, pure, and traceable raw material, the result of a selection that begins long before the laboratory and an artisanal processing that preserves its integrity. Not just a product, but the soul of a plant, brought into daily life with respect.
The tonic power of berries, preserved through steam distillation, is a gift of energy and grounding: a precious ally for vitality and for the most intense synergies.
When you offer it, you hold in your hands an essential oil that is carefully chosen, recognizable, and authentic: every drop carries with it the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest. This is what makes Olfattiva essential oils different: not an imitation of a fragrance, but the living message of Nature, preserved without compromise and with full respect for every living being.
Sun, wind, water, and subtle energies become a plant.
Essential oil is the Soul of the plant that interacts with Man.
Frequently Asked Questions
