Essential Oils extracted from Resins
Sort by:
The precious gift of resins
Essential Oils distilled from Resins contain one of the most ancient and precious gifts of the plant world. Frankincense, Myrrh, Elemi: these are warm, balsamic, and deep essential oils, used since antiquity in sacred rituals and moments of contemplation. Resins are born from the sap that the tree produces to protect and heal itself, and their essential oils hold all of its strength.
Olfattiva essential oils are pure, wholesome, and 100% natural. They are born from a careful and rigorous selection, matured over twenty years of experience, and tell the story of the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest.
How resins and their essential oils are born
Resins are secretions that the plant naturally produces to defend itself and heal bark wounds. Once collected, they are processed to obtain the essential oil, generally through steam distillation: the resin is placed in the still, where steam extracts its aromatic molecules, which then separate from the water in the Florentine flask.
The result is essential oils with a warm, balsamic, and enveloping character, with deep and persistent notes. Resins, like Frankincense and Myrrh, are among the oldest raw materials used by humans: their history spans millennia of rituals, traditional medicine, and perfumery.
Essential oil is the soul of the plant
Essential oil is a complex mixture of odorous molecules that the plant produces to defend itself, heal, and strengthen itself. From a subtle perspective, it is the soul of the plant: sun, water, air, earth, and subtle energies become resin and, through the essential oil, interact with humans.
In resins, this soul expresses itself with depth and enveloping warmth. It is no coincidence that, since ancient times, resins have been associated with the sacred and spiritual dimension. It is a richness that cannot be synthetically recreated: an artificial reproduction would never have the properties or energetic information of the plant.
How we select them
The selection of Olfattiva essential oils is an accurate, rigorous, and never automatic process. For each essential oil, we verify the full botanical name, chemotype, part of the plant used, extraction method, origin, and quality of distillation, always accompanied by olfactory evaluation, because the scent tells a lot about the vitality and balance of an essential oil.
Resins, precious raw materials with a long history, require in-depth knowledge to be best selected. We work with a network of selected producers, which allows us to know the traceability and authenticity of each raw material. Only when all elements are consistent does the essential oil enter the Olfattiva catalog.
The properties of essential oils from resins
Essential oils distilled from resins are traditionally associated with contemplation, meditation, and purification. Frankincense is perhaps the best known: it accompanies meditation and moments of introspection, and is a protagonist in synergies such as Acqua dell’Angelo, where it gives energy and protection. Myrrh is warm and deep, always linked to sacred rituals.
These are essential oils that speak to the most spiritual and profound dimension of the person, ideal for those seeking contemplation, calm, and inner connection. Diffused, they create enveloping and meditative atmospheres, perfect for yoga, meditation, or simply for moments of peace.
Many resins also accompany environmental purification rituals, an ancient tradition that today finds its place among those who wish to renew the energy of the spaces they live in.
How to use them
Essential oils from resins are wonderfully suited for diffusion in the environment, where they create warm, enveloping, and meditative atmospheres: use up to 15 drops in water-based diffusers like Levante and Maestrale, 5-7 in cold diffusers like Alarino. They are ideal for spaces dedicated to meditation and contemplation.
In general, we advise against applying pure essential oils directly to the skin: for topical use, they should be diluted in a vegetable oil or a neutral cream. Diluted, essential oils from resins are perfect for deep and relaxing massages, to be accompanied by a moment of conscious breathing.
For those who love fumigation rituals, resins interact well with products like Palo Santo and White Sage, dedicated to environmental purification and emotional well-being, often used to support meditation and yoga practices.
How to store them
To best preserve the quality of essential oils from resins, we recommend storing them away from direct light, heat, and temperature fluctuations. They are living and precious raw materials: proper storage helps maintain their aromatic profile and properties intact.
Essential oils from resins, rich in heavy molecules and steam-distilled, are generally stable over time. Their warm and deep note is preserved for a long time if stored correctly, maintaining all its enveloping richness.
Natural, vegan, and cruelty-free
All Olfattiva essential oils are 100% natural, pure, and wholesome. They are vegan and cruelty-free, formulated with only plant-based raw materials, without animal derivatives. Olfattiva is certified AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi and Vegan OK.
We believe in the law of resonance: what enters a formula carries information with it. This is why our essential oils from resins carry only the warm and deep message of the plant, with full respect for Nature and every living being.
What 100% natural means
In the world of essential oils, some words can be ambiguous. They are often used to indicate fragrances that have little or nothing natural about them: synthetic blends, reconstructed in the laboratory, sometimes presented as close to the plant world. Olfattiva chose a different path back in 2006, because our work stems from a faithful listening to the plant.
Our essential oils are pure and complete: they are not reconstituted, not diluted with synthetic substances, and do not contain chemical fixatives. Each oil retains the original complexity of the plant, its aromatic part but also its more subtle strength, that living quality that acts on personal well-being and the atmosphere of spaces. For resins, this means preserving the balsamic and deep strength of one of the oldest raw materials used by humankind.
Olfattiva was born from a need for purity and a gamble: a truly natural fragrance is possible. We have been saying this since 2006 and continue to believe in it, choosing every day to fully preserve the properties of plants.
The Workshop: where matter takes shape
The Olfattiva Workshop is located in Massa Lombarda, in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Romagna. It is here that every essential oil is welcomed, evaluated and stored, and it is here that raw materials become perfumes, synergies and aromatherapy products, through careful and conscious gestures.
The packaging is done entirely by hand: a choice that concerns not only the making, but also the way the product is accompanied to its final form. While working, we try to maintain beautiful, clean and luminous thoughts, because we believe that every gesture leaves a trace and every intention accompanies the matter. For resins, precious raw materials with a long history, in-depth knowledge guides a particularly accurate selection.
It is this combination of rigour, expertise and artisanal care that makes every Olfattiva essential oil an authentic and recognizable raw material, the result of over twenty years of experience in the service of Nature. When you use an essential oil from resins, you are experiencing the living identity of a plant.
Resins in rituals and meditation
For millennia, resins have accompanied sacred rituals and moments of contemplation. Frankincense, in particular, has always been linked to meditation and introspection: when diffused, it creates an enveloping and deep atmosphere, ideal for yoga practice or simply for moments of peace.
Resins are also protagonists of environmental purification rituals, an ancient tradition that finds new relevance among those who wish to renew the energy of the spaces they inhabit. They interact well with products dedicated to fumigation, such as Palo Santo and White Sage, in a journey of emotional well-being and care for the domestic atmosphere.
For environments, resins perform best in spaces dedicated to meditation, contemplation, and evenings, where their warm and deep note accompanies slowing down and calm.
Pairings and synergies with resins
Resins lend themselves to creating deep and meditative synergies.
They combine with woods, for grounding compositions; with citrus fruits, for fragrances that unite freshness and depth; and with sweet notes, for warm and enveloping atmospheres. For example, Frankincense is a protagonist in synergies like Acqua dell’Angelo, where it provides energy and protection.
For those who love to experiment, we suggest using resins as a base note, carefully dosing them due to their intense and persistent character. Even a few drops in diffusion are enough to transform an environment into a collected and meditative space.
Safe use and practical advice
Essential oils are extremely concentrated raw materials: a few drops contain a large quantity of plant matter. For this reason, they should be used with respect and caution. The most important rule is never to apply them pure directly to the skin: for topical use, they should always be diluted in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba oil, or in a neutral cream, to make them gentler and safer.
When an essential oil is added to a cream or a vegetable oil, a true aromatherapeutic product is obtained: during massage, the active ingredients work locally, while the odorous molecules reach the limbic system through olfaction, promoting balance and emotional well-being. This is what we call transdermal aromatherapy.
In the presence of animals, essential oils can be diffused with care and common sense: our pets have a much more developed sense of smell than ours. It is best to choose delicate notes, use them sparingly, allow the animal to move away, and ventilate rooms well. If in doubt, it is always advisable to consult a veterinarian.
Essential oil, an ancient and precious ally
Essential oils have accompanied humans for millennia, and resins are among the oldest raw materials ever. Frankincense and Myrrh have traversed the history of humanity as precious gifts, protagonists of sacred rituals, traditional medicine, and perfumery since the most ancient civilizations.
Resins are born from the sap that the tree produces to protect and heal itself, and they have always been associated with contemplation, meditation, and purification. Their warm and deep note makes them unique among essential oils. Today, Olfattiva preserves their quality with careful selection and in-depth knowledge.
Offering an essential oil from resins means providing an ally of spiritual depth: a companion for meditation, for purification rituals, and for more intimate atmospheres, to be experienced as a gesture of calm and connection.
Why choose Olfattiva essential oils
Choosing an Olfattiva essential oil from resins means choosing a living, pure, and traceable raw material, the result of a selection that begins long before the laboratory and a craftsmanship that preserves its integrity. Not just a simple product, but the soul of a plant, brought into daily life with respect.
The balsamic strength of resins, preserved through steam distillation, is an ancient gift of contemplation and calm: a precious ally for meditation and purification rituals.
When you use it, you hold in your hands an essential oil that is carefully chosen, recognizable, and authentic: every drop carries the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest. This is what makes Olfattiva essential oils different: not an imitation of a fragrance, but the living message of Nature, preserved without compromise and with full respect for every living being.
Sun, wind, water, and subtle energies become a plant.
Essential oil is the Soul of the plant that interacts with Man.
